This bronze relief by Theo van der Vathorst depicts a seated couple in an intimate and relaxed setting. The rounded, soft shapes give the figures a warm, human appearance, while the subtle modeling emphasizes connection and security. The couple's posture exudes tranquility and closeness, giving the work a friendly and approachable atmosphere.

The dark patina, enriched with light green hues, emphasizes the depth of the surface and beautifully highlights the modeling as the light grazes the bronze. Theo van der Vathorst (1921–1997)Van der Vathorst was a Dutch sculptor known for his powerful figurative bronzes in which simplicity, dignity, and inner peace are central. He was born in Rotterdam and studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, where he developed within the classical figurative tradition. His sculptures often depict human figures in restrained poses, with subtle body language forming the core of the expression. The forms are reduced to their essence, giving his work a timeless and almost meditative quality. Van der Vathorst created both autonomous work and commissioned works for public spaces, including various monuments and portraits.
