This elegant stone sculpture by R. Mteki displays a fluid, abstract form that exudes tranquility and strength. The smoothly polished surfaces emphasize the natural grain and warm brown tones of the stone. Subtle lines and incisions suggest a human or spiritual presence without literally representing it. The upward movement gives the work a meditative, almost sculptural serenity. The simplicity of the form makes it a timeless object that fits well in a variety of interiors. A refined and harmonious work of art that beautifully reflects the signature style of the Mteki family.

About the artist: R.Mteki

Richard Mteki (1947)is a Zimbabwean sculptor belonging to the second generation of Shona sculptors who achieved international fame with his powerful stone sculptures. Born in Harare, he was recognized at a young age for his talent for form and balance. Mteki frequently worked with serpentine stone, a material that allowed him to combine flowing lines with powerful symbolism. His sculptures often depict human figures, birds, and spiritual motifs that reference traditions within Shona culture. The forms are clean, clear, and monumental, giving his work a direct and timeless appeal. Mteki possessed an exceptional sense of proportion and harmony, giving his sculptures a calm yet powerful presence. He won awards early on in Zimbabwe, and his work later spread to international galleries and collections. His style remains recognizable through the combination of simplicity and spiritual depth. Mteki is considered one of the most important representatives of modern Zimbabwean sculpture. His sculptures are collected worldwide for their balance between traditional craftsmanship and universal symbolism.
