Arie Teeuwisse - Dr. Jenner and son
Arie Teeuwisse - Dr. Jenner and son
This charming bronze sculpture by Arie Teeuwisse depicts Dr. Jenner with his son in an intimate and protective pose. The compact design and soft modeling give the work a warm, human feel that immediately invites closer inspection. Beneath the flowing cloak, the two figures merge almost naturally, creating a strong sense of security and connection.
Teeuwisse's characteristic rounded forms and subtle details make the sculpture instantly recognizable within his oeuvre. The calm, earthy patina gives the bronze a timeless, classic look and enhances the sculpture's soft contours. While the expression is restrained, the body language speaks volumes: a moment of care, attention, and quiet closeness between parent and child.
Its modest size makes this artwork ideal for display cases, sideboards, or intimate interior spaces. It's a characterful and warm sculpture that beautifully reflects Teeuwisse's soft figuration and human sensitivity.

About the artist: Arie Teeuwisse
Arie Teeuwisse (1919–1993)was a Dutch sculptor known for his refined and accessible figurative bronzes. Born in Amsterdam, he trained at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts), where he was trained in classical modeling. Teeuwisse developed a recognizable style with soft lines, rounded forms, and a natural simplicity, giving his sculptures a warm and friendly appearance. His work often depicts everyday human moments, children playing, or subdued figures close to life. He managed to create strong expression and character with minimal means, which made his sculptures widely beloved. His modeling is subtle and clear, allowing light and shadow to play beautifully across the surface. Teeuwisse also created animal figures in which the same sensitivity and attention to posture are visible. His oeuvre can be found in both private collections and public spaces. Arie Teeuwisse is considered an important representative of Dutch figurative sculpture in the twentieth century.
